Total Estimated Funds Available to Award Per Year:
- $75,000 (5% of endowment - $3,750, plus University match - $3,750)

Award:

1. Maximum of $2,000 Annual Award, 4 consecutive years - up to 4 awards available per year disbursed quarterly.

Criteria - Traditional Student and/or Adult Student Applicants must meet the following:

  1. Be a high school graduating senior or an adult student four or more years after graduation;
  2. Be a resident of the Ironton Empowerment Zone (Railroad to Spruce and the floodwall to US 52);
  3. Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Ohio University Southern with a minimum of 12 hours per quarter the first year and 16 hours per quarter thereafter;
  4. Demonstrate academic potential and financial need as determined by selection committee;
  5. Maintain a 2.75 GPA in order to be considered for renewal;
  6. Have no breaks in attendance longer than one quarter per year (e.g., summer term);
  7. Have an application for admission on file and an academic transcript on file;
  8. Apply for federal and state aid and awards (cannot exceed calculated cost of attendance);
  9. Participate in an approved service internship designed to benefit residents of the Ironton Empowerment Zone in order to be eligible for matching funds. Internships must be pre-approved by both Ohio University Southern and the Mayor of Ironton. All service internships will be coordinated through the Mayor's Office of Ironton. Internships will consist of 100 unpaid hours within the Ironton Empowerment Zone;
  10. OU Southern will provide the name and address of awardees to the Huntington-Ironton Empowerment Zone, Inc., by June 30 of each year until 2009, after which time the Ironton Mayor's Office will be provided such information upon request.

1. Scholarship application on file by April 1 for consideration.

Selection process:

1. Selected by Ohio University Southern Scholarship Selection Committee with the recommendation of the Ironton Empowerment Scholarship Selection Committee. This committee consists of a representative of the Dean of Ohio University Southern, a representative of the Ironton Mayor, and a representative from the Huntington, WV - Ironton, OH Empowerment Zone, Inc., or its designee and two representatives from the Ironton Empowerment Zone community.
